A Strong Holiday Season Boosts Sales
Despite being on the market for nearly eight years, the Switch continues to sell in significant numbers. In the last quarter alone, driven by holiday shopping events such as Black Friday and the Christmas season, Nintendo moved 4.82 million units. The strong holiday performance demonstrates the enduring popularity of the console, even as speculation about its successor grows.
However, overall sales of the Switch have started to decline, a trend expected for a console in its later years. Nintendo initially projected 12.5 million units sold by the end of March 2025, but the company has now revised that target down to 11 million units. In comparison to the same period in 2023, Switch sales have fallen by 30%.
This slowdown is not surprising, given the long lifespan of the Switch and the mounting anticipation for Nintendo’s next-generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2.
